The CRES Amateur Radio Club held its third quarter general meeting for the 2005 calendar year at the New Albany Library on Wednesday, October 19, 2005. Those in attendance were: President Tricia Kovacs/KC8HIH, Vice President David Jeffords/K8ON, Contest Coordinator Carl Yaffey/K8NU, VE Coordinator Art Grandle/KD8ZG and members KC8VKS, W3CRZ, K8TX, K8AX, K8KJ, W8AGS and WA8LBZ. Tricia called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Art Grandle/KD8ZG reported on the repeater status. The repeater was off the air in the middle of September due to an intermittent loss of audio. Dave Woolf shut down the main repeater for approximately one week. He turned the repeater back on and it was working again so it is unknown what caused the problem. Art also reported that speed dial for phones that are not in the 614 area code does not work. Art also told us that the main lobby at Mt. Carmel is now open so we can access the building through that entrance during working hours. We still need to ask someone to escort us to the repeater room and to unlock the door. We would like to invite the Mt. Carmel hams to join our club so if you know any of them, please extend an invitation. Carl Yaffey/K8NU reported on the upcoming CQWE contest. The event will be held the weekend of November 12-13 and this year's contest will be sponsored by the Allentown Works Amateur Radio Club. Carl will send out email with the 2 meter frequency we will use for the contest at a later date. Please see the webpage for all the details including log sheets and Carl's logging software: Thanks to Rob Stampfli/KD8WK for maintaining the CQWE website. Tricia Kovacs/KC8HIH asked for volunteers for the nominating committee for 2006 officers. She and David Jeffords/K8ON were encouraged to continue as officers for 2006 but they would like to ask if others would like to run for office. Tricia and David will be the nominating committee, so if you are interested in running for office, please let one of them know: or Art Grandle/KD8ZG notified the club that the next VE test session will be on Saturday, December 3 at the Parkview Presbyterian Church at 6969 Livingston Ave in Reynoldsburg. Carl Yaffey/K8NU encouraged the club to volunteer for COARES public service events. Their events are listed on their website: The meeting concluded with a presentation of pictures from the 2005 CRES-ARC Field Day and Picnic which was presented by Al Mecozzi/ WA8LBZ. Al also shared a tuner project which he had built. The aluminum tuner box was built economically for $23 by purchasing the aluminum from Research Alloys in Columbus which sells smaller pieces of metals than the building supply stores. Thanks to Al for the picture presentation and for sharing your project. Respectfully submitted, Tricia Kovacs, President
