The CRES Amateur Radio Club held a general membership meeting on Wednesday, 15 August 2007, at the New Albany library. The following members were in attendance: President Bill Erwin/N9CX, Vice President Dave Brown/K8AX, Secretary Treasurer Rob Stampfli/KD8WK, Trustee Mike Rauh/W8GT, and members WA8LBZ, W3CRZ, KC8DJR, K8LJ, guests Bob Perdue and Kevin Howard/KD8DNO, and K8ON and KC8HIH who arrived late. After a social hour, the meeting was called to order by President Bill Erwin/N9CX at 7:10 PM. We welcomed visitors Bob Perdue (a friend of K8AX's and member of the microprocessor group) and Kevin Howard/KD8DNO (a friend of K8LJ's). The minutes from the previous meeting was approved as they appear on the web site. Treasurer's Report: We have $1,724.39 in Telhio checking/savings, $272.31 in our cash account, and $5,751.87 in CDs. Rob Stampfli/KD8WK reported four of our CDs would come up for renewal next month. He intends to roll them over in such a way as to eventually have 5 5-year laddered CDs. Bob Kenyon/K8LJ reported that we had 8 candidates at our VE session at the Columbus Ham-OH-Rama hamfest earlier in the month. All 8 earned a new license class. Our next VE exams will be in December. The report for the repeater committee was that the machine is working well. The hum problem is gone and the consensus is that the repeater sounds good. Bill reported that all our antennas had been removed from the tower at Mt. Carmel, and all but three sections of the tower had been disassembled. He thanked the valiant club members who braved the heat to undertake this task. Bob reported that the antennas will be disposed of through an auction. First, they will be offered to clubmembers, then to the extended local community, and finally, if there are any remaining hardware, it will be auctioned on Ebay. The tower sections will be similarly auctioned once we have them in our possession. Al Mecozzi/WA8LBZ motioned, and Dan Merrick/K8TX seconded, that the club approve funds to buy a video projector for our meetings. Rob dissented, indicating that this had been discussed earlier in an excomm meeting and the consensus was that we had sufficient access to projectors so as not to warrant expending the our funds to acquire one. However, it was pointed out that at least one of the sources was now more tenuous, and there appeared to be more support within the club for acquiring a projector. In the end, the motion was tabled after Bob suggested a committee be appointed to study the options and report back to the club with a recommendation. Al, George Kinder/KC8DJR, Dave Brown/K8AX, and Rob volunteered to be on the committee, and the creation of this group was approved by a show of hands of the membership. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45, after which Bill gave a fascinating presentation on "Automated Amateur Radio Satellite Tracking on a Budget", describing the hardware and software that was demoed for us at this year's Field Day exercise, and including some of the things he had learned from undertaking this project. Respectfully submitted, Rob
